The Exploitation of the Other
In times of societal crisis, the outsider is stripped of personhood and reduced to a pawn or symbolic object for immediate survival or political gain. The perceived 'other' is either weaponized as a savior, manipulated as a bargaining chip, or targeted as a captive, their agency curtailed by desperate or oppressive communities. This theme interrogates how fear and need dehumanize, transforming individuals into commodities or spectacles, and how societies exploit the vulnerability of those who are different.
