Protective Duty vs. Temporal Responsibility
Protectiveness is a morally complex impulse that drives characters to shield others, often placing them in conflict with indifferent systems or personal betrayal. Acts of protection can double back and harm the intended beneficiaries, while rescue missions become acts of defiance against oppression. The theme explores the reciprocal nature of care in a perilous world, where each character is both protector and protected. Sacrifice becomes a site of moral ambiguity, and the theme questions whether protection can exist without coercion and whether care for others can become a cage.
