A narrow, unstable ledge on the inner slope of a volcanic caldera where Peri Brown stands precariously close to the magma pit. The slope is composed of loose volcanic scree that shifts underfoot, sending small stones rattling down into the abyss below. The air grows thick with sulfurous fumes that sting the eyes and throat, while heat radiates upward from the pit like an open oven. Crumbling stonework from ancient structures juts sporadically from the slope, remnants of the civilization now buried beneath layers of hardened lava. The ledge's angle steepens near the carving site, where Peri scrapes her arm against the rough basalt, leaving trails of blood that mix with the mineral dust. Shadows lengthen and flicker as distant fumaroles erupt sporadically, casting eerie outlines across the scene. This space forces stillness: one wrong step could send Peri tumbling toward the magma or tumbling into the concealed tunnel entrance her feet have just uncovered.
