Bands of sickly green light and rotating concentric symbols sweep across the faceplate while a central iris-like disk and embedded override pad move into alignment; the assembly emits a high, piercing tone and a focused green beam when activated. Characters study and press the pad—Data deciphers symbol relationships and deliberately activates the cluster, which spins the gateway to life and lashes back, crippling his positronic functions.
