Normally they bathe the warp-core gangway in bright, utilitarian white; here they gutter and strobe as ship systems bleed away, throwing hard, flickering reflections across consoles and throwing technicians’ faces into anxious half-light. Crew reflexively squint, shout, and hunt for backup lighting as visibility collapses.

Significance

The lights’ collapse shortens reaction time, heightens confusion, and signals the ship’s vulnerability, escalating command decisions and crew urgency.
