Object
Main Engineering Overhead Lights
A linear array of recessed overhead fixtures set into Engineering’s ribbed ceiling: brushed dural panels with frosted diffusers and low-profile housings. Normally they bathe the warp-core gangway in bright, utilitarian white; here they gutter and strobe as ship systems bleed away, throwing hard, flickering reflections across consoles and throwing technicians’ faces into anxious half-light. Crew reflexively squint, shout, and hunt for backup lighting as visibility collapses.

Purpose
To provide broad, adjustable illumination for the USS Enterprise main engineering space so engineers can monitor systems, perform maintenance, and immediately perceive changes in shipboard power and status.
Significance
Functions as an environmental status cue: its sudden dimming and stuttering registers the Borg’s power siphon, converting a technical failure into immediate tactical alarm and dramatic threat. The lights’ collapse shortens reaction time, heightens confusion, and signals the ship’s vulnerability, escalating command decisions and crew urgency.
