Main Engineering Overhead Ceiling

A low, industrial overhead of composite durasteel panels, ribbed support struts, exposed conduit runs and recessed maintenance hatches that span the turbolift bay in Main Engineering. Panels wear scuff marks, heat discoloration, and the faint sheen of oil; overhead grilles and service loops hang within arm's reach. When the turbolift violently malfunctions, the ceiling's hard surfaces and hanging fixtures convert into an immediate hazard, colliding with and pinning a thrown figure and shredding delicate equipment against their mounting points.

Purpose

To provide structural cover for the engineering deck while carrying ventilation, power conduits, sensor lines, and maintenance access points for shipboard systems.

Significance

Functions as a turning-point hazard: the ship's infrastructure retaliates, transforming Geordi's breakthrough into bodily immobilization and equipment damage, isolating the lone expert and escalating narrative stakes by converting ordinary architecture into an antagonist.
