Brull's Bucket of Sand

A battered, soot‑streaked bucket heaped with coarse, gritty sand. Scuffed and utilitarian rather than decorative, its rim bears smears of ash and tubing from hurried handling; grains tumble in a light spill when upended. Hands — quick, angry, practiced — grab the handle and tip the sand in a single violent arc. The Gatherers use it to bludgeon the noranium fire into silence, their movements raw and purposeful as smoke collapses under the falling grit.

To smother and extinguish smoldering noranium and its vapor, serving as a rapid containment/neutralizing tool to dissipate a smoke screen or damp down embers.

Significance

Brull's battered bucket of sand is used decisively to neutralize the tactical smoke screen by pouring grit over the noranium pile, halting the vaporization and preserving Gatherer salvage; its use converts the immediate tactical advantage back to the Gatherers.

Before: Full and at hand near Brull and the Gatherers, used for camp maintenance.

After: Emptied onto the noranium pile, now in Brull's possession but partly spilled; it has fulfilled a defensive function.

Smoke Screen, Return, and the Amnesty Reveal

Brull's bucket of sand is the immediate countermeasure: he grabs it and pours its contents on the noranium to smother the smoke. Narratively it represents the Gatherers' quick, material response to technological tactics and their desire to preserve loot.

Before: Full of coarse sand and positioned near the noranium/fire area for practical camp use.

After: Tipped and partially emptied onto the noranium pile; sand spilled and the bucket less full, having succeeded in suppressing much of the vapor cloud.
