Three Volumes of Castrovalva
Three small, leather-bound volumes delivered to the Portreeve’s breakfast table by Shardovan and the woman. Their covers show faded gilt lettering, now hard to read under the room’s dim light, but the Doctor infers they contain Castrovalva’s instructional or symbolic texts. Portreeve presents them as earnest gifts while subtly asserting surveillance through the woven tapestry. When Nyssa and Tegan briefly step away, the Doctor traces a finger across the spines, noting their worn leather and uneven edges as the only material property on show.
