The door features a distinct gothic pointed arch, designed to frame the entrance with vertical emphasis. Its dark-stained wood contrasts with the lighter plaster of the lumber room's walls, and an iron handle hangs slightly loose in its socket. When opened, its hinges emit a slow, creaking protest that the Doctor recognizes as an advantage in his escape—allowing him to pause his rampage and listen for pursuers. The pointed shape gives the threshold an archaic character, more chapel than prison.
