Young Woman

The Young Woman is a recurring, unnamed figure whose presence marks moments of systemic submission across time and space. She first appears as a reserved bridge officer aboard the Zanak fortress, silently observant of the Captain's disciplinary tyranny. Later, she is among the compliant youths delivering tribute to the predatory Nimon, acting without resistance to survive. In her final known appearance, she becomes a defensive villager in Killingworth, speaking out to protect her missing partner's reputation from accusations of Luddite involvement. Each iteration finds her navigating oppressive authority—whether under a despotic captain, alien overlords, or hostile political accusations—without agency or voice to alter her circumstances. She remains a peripheral figure, defined by her relationship to power structures that demand deference, and her testimony consistently prioritizes survival or loyalty over defiance.
